“Come Follow Me” Study Helps

Hello there! Here are some resources to help you study and record your impressions as you use the Come Follow Me manual. I take questions directly from that text, but don’t include the scriptures so you will want to keep it handy. Below you’ll find video links, study guides, coloring pages, scripture memes, activities, music, and game ideas to go along with each week’s lesson. They’re pretty simple, but I find beauty and practicality in simplicity. In other words, we’ve actually been using these instead of just “hoping” to. Scroll down to find a week you would like support studying. I pray you will find something here that will help you grow in your understanding of and connection to Jesus Christ!

GAME IDEA : Home Run Charades

The game we played – which was SUPER FUN and they kept asking to play again – is a fun form of charades. You put a bunch of words on different slips of paper but don’t let the players see them. I wrote these out from the week’s reading and their answers to different questions. Then you form 2 teams. For the 1st round, the first team member has 30 seconds to grab slips of paper and try to get their teammates to guess the word they are describing without using the word. When the time is up, the other team gets a turn, and so on until all the words have been guessed. Make note of how many words each side guessed.

Then for the second round, you play again except they can only describe the word they draw with ONE word, so you have to make it a good one! This can be clever or silly, depending on how your family makes connections. Continue to play until all words have been guessed and record the points.

Then for round three, you can ONLY gesture or do charades to get people to guess. Again, get through all the words and see who wins! 🙂

It was a RIOT and I will have to post my photos of our funny game sometime. Try it!!

Finally, here are the memes I made this week to keep the words of the Savior on my mind. Life is busy, but there is always time for Christ if we make the time. I hope these help you keep him close.

Chris Tomlin’s beautiful anthem, “Whom Shall I Fear” was a perfect fit for this week’s study, so I’m including it here too. I remember a season where I listened to it every day to remind me that I do not need to fear. The same God who made so many miracles happen was going to give me the strength to keep going too. I hope it lifts you!

ACTIVITY & GAME IDEA: Time Capsule & Homerun Charades

Since the lesson mentioned knowing your ancestors, we talked about some of our ancestors, their strengths, what they liked and didn’t like. Then we filled these out about ourselves and shared our answers. It was fun and special to get to know each other better. Then we sealed them in a box to read again at the end of the year. My kids LOVED this activity, even though they needed help writing some of their answers. It was super cute!

Then we used their answers to choose words and play Homerun Charades again! (It’s our latest favorite game!) Here are the instructions again…

The activities in the FHE portion look amazing this week so I’m just planning on using those. We will DEFINITELY be playing our Homerun Charades game with the different people who were part of the Nativity. LOL That should be fun! 🙂

Here are some scriptures to consider ponderizing this week from the reading.

pondered them in her heart

I goofed a little on this one, but I doubt any little one will care too much. Hopefully, they will just notice the pretty parts. Giving what I can is worth it, even if it means it’s not perfect. I hope some of these resources will help you in your scripture study!

Some other verses to consider ponderizing…

light power

I love the flashlight FHE suggestion this week, so here’s a simple coloring sheet to go along with it. It can be downloaded here as a PDF or through the JPEG below.

light

I’m also planning on hiding pictures of Christ around the living room and having the kids find them with the flashlight. I think that will be fun and help them remember who John the Baptist was. I might even stick a piece of tape on one flashlight and draw a stick figure on there and label it “John the Baptist” and another with “John”! (LOL My kids are visual learners.)  I truly hope these tools can help you as you study for yourself and/or teach your family!
