About Me…The Nitty Gritty

Hi!  I’m Eva, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, wife, mother, writer, singer, photographer, dancer and survivor of bulimia, depression and anxiety. For nearly a decade I had months here and there where it was all I could do to not hurt myself or abandon my family. I even planned ending my life. Now those feelings are mostly just memories as I maintain the priceless habits of S.M.I.L.E., stay close to God, and sing and write the words that come to me.

I have my low moments but I do my best to be proactive and see the good life has to offer.  I usually choose NOT to capture my manic moments with my camera because I’ve seen where dwelling on the negative has taken me.  Plus, I know 50 years from now I will only remember the “good old times” anyway.  So I do my best to focus on those good moments now while still being real and transparent.

I by no means have a perfect life, but by focusing on the positive I hope to never regress into that dark tunnel of depression again.  I also believe that the greatest good that can come from the trials my family has faced due to my illness, is helping others get through similar challenges.  None of us is ever alone when we open up to each other!

The website “Rise Up and S.M.I.L.E.” is about uplifting both myself and anyone who journeys with me.
For me, that journey includes song-writing, everyday aha moments (I like to call them mommy-musings), practicing S.M.I.L.E. to stay mentally healthy, and my other M&M’s for physical and spiritual strength. Since I’m a Christian mom, I make it a priority (as hard as it is sometimes!) to creatively teach my kids the Gospel, and I share those ideas here (click to go to that page).  Also, keeping my depression in check and keeping up with my kids has only been possible through trying to live a healthier lifestyle.  I’ve struggled with body image issues for a long time, as well as food addiction, so sharing my nutritious choices here helps me stay on track.

I love having readers, sharing ideas and struggles, and feeling the support that’s out there when we learn from each other! Thank you again for visiting!  Come back often!  Subscribe, share and comment!  I hope that by sharing how I “Rise Up and S.M.I.L.E.” that you can feel more happiness in your life too.
