I’ve been doing some re-branding and am SO excited to finally start sharing the projects I’ve been working on! First off, as much as I loved the start that the name Uplifting Eva gave me, I never liked that it had my name. I’ve always wanted something that was more about sharing hope for everyone and less focused on me. That’s why I’m excited to announce a new, better blog and website, www.RiseUpandSmile.com. My new site has many, many more resources and services. I’ll be sharing these over the next few days, but for now I want to explain where the website name comes from.
One of my favorite sentences is, “In the name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk.” Peter speaks these words to a man who had been crippled since birth. He found him asking for help at the temple. On the outside, this man was broken. But on the inside, he was full of faith. He knew exactly where he needed to be.
There was a time in my life when the reverse was true. On the outside, I looked like I was full of faith. But on the inside, I was broken. I was sinking. I was tragically depressed. I was doing my best to be a mom and wife, trying to be happy and be where I was supposed to be. But I didn’t know how I could go on when I was so drained. I was spiritually stuck and emotionally exhausted.
I remember a specific day when I didn’t think I could even get out of bed. My depression was that bad! My kids needed me to make them breakfast and teach them their schoolwork, but I was low and stuck. Thinking of this story in Acts, imagining the Savior speaking these words to me, “Rise up and walk,” helped me get up and do what had to be done. Feed the kids. Take care of my husband. Call a friend who was sad. Everything that we actually need to do is possible through Christ if we will put our faith in him.
Thinking about this story reminds me of the power I have to RISE UP! It’s through faith in Christ’s grace. I can ALWAYS look to him for strength and healing. Jesus IS my light and can make my burdens light, helping me to move forward, even with my imperfections.
No matter how low we sink, there is no place his love cannot reach us.
This website is a place where I record and share all the happy habits that lift me in hopes that they will also lift others. These truths help me live a higher life, not-so-depressed life, one that rises above the clouds of anxiety and everday stress. This is where I raise my voice and elevate my mind and spirit by sharing hopeful thoughts, quotes, photos, and songs. By seeing myself, others, and my life through an elevated, eternal perspective, I am better able to get out of bed, reach out, and smile through my sorrows. I promise it’s possible.
I hope this new online presence is a safe, uplifting, and joyful one. It’s meant taking some time off from creating, but it’s been worth it. Sometimes that’s what it takes to find what you’ve been wanting to be. I pray that you feel the reality that no matter how broken we are and how low we feel, we CAN “Rise up” and S.M.I.L.E.!
